Is there no end to your to-do list? Do you feel like you're lagging behind and can't really catch your breath? Then maybe it's time to pay more attention to your self-care moments. How do you do that? Read this article quickly!
What is self-care?
What exactly is self-care? And how does this differ from self-love? Here's the thing: self-love is how you feel about yourself and self-care is how you treat yourself. Of course they go hand in hand, but today we want to talk about how you can be kind to yourself.
With self-care you put your well-being first by taking good care of yourself and treating yourself with love. This can be done, for example, by eating healthy food, exercising regularly and setting your limits. But this can also mean sleeping in on a lazy Sunday morning, followed by breakfast in bed and an extra long everything shower.
Why is it important?
We are busy, busy, busy with our lives these days. We never stop for a moment with long working days, sports and drinks evenings. And then we also plan our weekend full of chores, a family birthday and a day of shopping with friends. When can you sit down and eat everything? quiet to make?
Scheduling moments of rest for yourself is a way to relax. By doing things that give you peace, you can reduce cortisol, also known as the stress hormone. And finally, if you take good care of yourself and feel good, this also has a positive impact on your environment.
Self-care tips to help you relax
#1. Nice exercise
There are dozens of reasons why exercise is good for you. A 30-minute walk outdoors can immensely improve your mental well-being and it is of course good for your body.
But also dancing in your living room, boxing in the gym or a group pilates lesson at the gym will get you moving. More importantly: choose something that makes you happy!
#2. Go into nature
Most of us live with the constant image of tall, gray buildings around us. There is little nature to admire and this rarely does us any good.
So leave the city for a beautiful walk in the woods or go to a Wadden island to get a breath of fresh air on the beach. Then you can really clear your head!
#3. Read your favorite book
And no, this doesn't necessarily have to be a self-help book. Read a book that makes you forget the world around you for a moment. This can certainly be a self-help book if you like, but you can also think of a biography of your favorite celebrity, an erotic novel or a fantasy story.
#4. Digital detox
For example, start by putting your phone away once a week (in a place where you can't easily reach it). This can be before going to sleep, so that you can quietly go through your evening routine, or in the middle of the day so that you do not receive any notifications.
#5. Work on a creative project
Draw a self-portrait, learn to crochet or buy beautiful glasses to decorate – there are endless possibilities to express your creativity. From knitting and embroidery to creative writing and crafting, discover what you like to do!
#6. Treat yourself
Take a long shower or take a bath, where you pamper every part of yourself and give it some attention. Then massage yourself with your favorite lotion, put on your nicest outfit and chill on the couch.
